1st to come up with the money. Make sure they have passport and ticket in hand. Otherwise, long ago I had friends flake out on me for trips and I went by myself. Although traveling with friends is great, I've had amazing times alone. You meet all sorts of people - which you probably wont with others because you are too wrapped up in yourselves. Also, you are definitely more involved in the culture. You can do whatever you want without worrying about compromise. Either way have a blast!

Is this a power trip or something? Keeping 5 or 6 people in a situation of suspense seems immoral to me. I think you should cancel the holiday and spend the money giving your friends a treat at home to repay them for your unkind attitude.

I hope they had a really good reason. Personally, I'd go on my own (making sure thay paid any monies owing). You'll have a blast & all that extra space to enjoy!
